If you think that the construction process described above is complicated, you're not alone. According to SSW Structures Construction Manager Dale Mullins, "The complexity of this bridge surpasses any of the other bridges I have built in the past 36 years."

Dale oversees a team of Superintendents and supervises the work being done on the Project site, with a focus on both safety and production. He knows how complex this construction process is, but also recognizes the opportunity "to build an iconic bridge that we all can be proud of for years to come." Large-scale works like this can be challenging because they require the cooperation of many different groups. Dale has found it very rewarding to have been able to partner with the City of Los Angeles to tackle this particular challenge.

Before starting on the Project, Dale had only seen the original Sixth Street Viaduct in movies and TV shows, since he grew up in San Diego. Dale now lives in Temecula, where he relaxes from the challenges of the job by working on his tractor or enjoying a glass of red wine, we're told. There is still plenty more to be done on the Project, so hopefully Dale has some extra wine on hand. Or another tractor.
