Lee Pelton

Lee Pelton told us that he and his wife love to travel and explore new places. Earlier this year, they decided to embark on an even bigger adventure. The two packed up and moved from Texas out to the beaches of California.

Lee started on the Project in April as a Project Engineer. Prior to this, he worked for a smaller firm that gave him the opportunity to take on many different responsibilities, so Lee is happy to lend his services wherever he is needed with SSW. Right now he is supervising concrete work on the knuckle region and the final Transverse Arch Rib Floor Beams.

The job requires Lee to coordinate with different entities—from the City of Los Angeles to the team at SSW—but Lee enjoys working with a diverse group of people. He wants to take on the challenge of managing and scheduling for a complex project like this, and is interested in pursuing Project Management in the future. In general, Lee likes training others and getting them excited about construction.

Lee's first experience with the industry came from his grandfather, who had a lifelong career in construction. When Lee was in college at the University of North Texas, he decided to pursue a similar path and majored in Construction Engineering Technology. After all, he enjoys being outside, working with his hands, and coming together as a team to accomplish something great. It's rewarding work, he says, building something in real life—that's not on the internet.

To anyone interested in a similar career, Lee would advise learning as much as you can in and out of the classroom, then working hard as soon as you find your first job. If you are willing to do that, Lee says, "the world is here for the taking."
