Luis Reza recently joined the Carpenters Union Local 409 as a 1st Period Apprentice. This opportunity for the local East Los Angeles resident was made possible through a sponsorship and the combined efforts of Skanska Stacy and Witbeck (SSW), and the Boyle Heights WorkSource Center, which strives to connect members of the community to jobs in their area.
Eager and motivated to begin his career, Luis was brought onto the 6th Street Viaduct Replacement Project. He emphasized his commitment to add to the safety-oriented environment that SSW takes pride in creating. Luis says his work crew has been extremely helpful with mentoring his first experience with a project of this scale, as well as his trade development. "I look forward to waking up in the morning and going to work".
During the next 10 years, Luis aspires to "work hard and smart" so that he can achieve his long-term goal of becoming a Foreman. His family is his greatest joy, and spending quality time with them is important. He is excited for the completion of the viaduct so that he can show his children the iconic project that he helped to build.
